About Us

In 1973 a group of Lubec citizens joined together and formed the Lubec Historical Society to preserve Lubec's rich history.  For 45+ years we have welcomed students, professors/teachers,

tourist and community members to our museum.  We host public lectures, tours, and talks on various topics, cooking demonstrations from times past and sharing of the history of Lubec.  Volunteers

continue to be the sole force behind the society and its projects.  Over the past 15 years  we have seen the number of members dwindle to one quarter of those in place a decade ago.  Our challenge for the 21st Century is to continue to carry the torch handed to us over 45+ years ago by the charter members to the next generation to carry on Lubec's legecy. Won't you please consider becoming a member?

A Message from Cecil Moores

Secretary to the Historical Society

There is an old adage - Time and Tide wait for no man and time passes quickly. Generations of Lubecer's have come and gone and with their passing we have lost their stories, their knowledge and wisdom of what made Lubec flourish.  Our community's history is lost forever - unless "YOU" help us to preserve their struggles, their life and our history.

This is the mission of the Lubec Historical Society.  We research, collect, document, record, preserve, and display information about Lubec's people, past events, former businesses, etc..  I invite you to assist us in compiling information on what your ancestors passed down to you.  Your family stories, historical information, photographs and your memories of Lubec for future generations!  We will make copies of your photographs and documents and return them to you promptly if you don't want to donate them.

We need your help to keep the home fires burning.  A few years ago there was a popular saying, "It takes a community to raise a child".  While this is true, it also takes "HISTORY" to tell a child what their community was and is about.  I would like to invite you to visit the museum to experience all that has been accomplished recently to tell the story of Lubec.  We will re-open for the 2019 season on June 17th and are open Mon/Wed/Fri from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  I look forward to meeting you. Feel free to contact me directly at 155 Main Street, Lubec, ME  04652, or by telephone at (207)733-2994  (you may leave a message if I am out), or through e-mail at lubechistoricalsociety@yahoo.com.

Sincerely,

Cecil Moores, Sec.
