There is an old adage - Time and Tide wait for no man and time passes quickly. Generations of Lubecer's have come and gone and with their passing we have lost their stories, their knowledge and wisdom of what made Lubec flourish. Our community's history is lost forever - unless "YOU" help us to preserve their struggles, their life and our history.
This is the mission of the Lubec Historical Society. We research, collect, document, record, preserve, and display information about Lubec's people, past events, former businesses, etc.. I invite you to assist us in compiling information on what your ancestors passed down to you. Your family stories, historical information, photographs and your memories of Lubec for future generations! We will make copies of your photographs and documents and return them to you promptly if you don't want to donate them.
Cecil Moores, Sec.
In 1973 a group of Lubec citizens joined together and formed the Lubec Historical Society to preserve Lubec's rich history. For 40+ years we have welcomed students, teachers, community members and visitors to our museum. We sponsor public lectures, book readings/signings and sharing of the history of Lubec.
Volunteers continue to be the sole force behind the society and its projects. The times have seen the number of members dwindle to one quarter of those in place a decade ago. The challenge for the 21st Century is to carry the torch handed to us over 40+ years ago by the charter members to the next generation to carry on Lubec's legecy.
